Your Questions,
Answered Simply

I have put together some questions I am commonly asked. If your question isn't covered here, please feel free to get in touch. There are no silly questions - if it matters to you, it matters to me.

What do you charge for sessions?

My standard rate is £40 or £35 for students. I do have a limited number of £15 slots for those who would experience hardship in accessing counselling. These slots are capped at 10 sessions and held at least fortnightly to keep them accessible for all.

How long does each counselling session last?

I book sessions in 50 minute blocks. The end time of the session is fixed so the next client is not kept waiting, so unfortunately if you're late, you may get a shorter session.

Do you offer online or in-person sessions?

Both! I have a comfortable and cosy room located in York city centre, and I also work remotely.

Can I swear in sessions?

Absolutely. I love authentic expression. I only ask that you don't swear at me or gratuitously use slurs.

What if I change my mind about counselling?

This is absolutely fine. You can stop your counselling sessions at any time. If you feel we are not the best fit, I am happy to recommend somebody who might be better suited to you.

Do you work with autism and ADHD?

Yes, as a neurodivergent counsellor, I have a deep personal and professional understanding of these experiences. I welcome the authentic expressions of neurodiversity in my space.

Is my information safe with you?

Your information is layered behind passwords and encryption. Note taking is kept to a bare minimum. I am GDPR compliant and registered with the ICO. Please check my privacy notice for more information on how I handle your information.

How many sessions will I need?

This can vary but is ultimately up to you. I will check in with you regularly to see how our work is going.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less notice will be charged at the full rate.I recognise genuine emergencies can happen and will consider these on an individual basis.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session typically covers my contract, followed by a discussion of your goals and needs in working together.

How do I know if therapy is working?

Progress can feel subtle. You may notice feeling more grounded, having more clarity, or navigating challenges with more ease.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ people?

Absolutely. I am passionate about providing sensitive and attuned care to LGBTQ+ clients. I believe in equal rights and that trans rights are human rights.
